PROJECT DETAIL
About the Project
Title: Sporting Dance
The overall aim of our project is:
To bring together local residents and people who have an interest in Sports and dance, to involve them in street dance and exercise classes as a single ‘dance community’. We will be hosting a sporting dance event at Birmingham University Athletics ground to raise funds for young people in sheltered housing.
Provide a structured programme that supports young people to lead on the development of the TruStreetDance Academy and define, plan and shape its sustainable future.
The goals are:
· Take street dance and sports into the workplace in the Lionel Street and surrounding area of Snow Hill and leave a sustainable ‘healthy workplace’ programme in place
· Inspire local residents and those who already attend our classes as parents and supporters to get involved in dance and exercise alongside local workers to extend the benefits of dance as exercise to an older group of people
The specific objectives:
We will achieve these goals by using two new programmes that will encourage people to take up dance & exercise as a healthy and fun activity and that build on our existing, exceptionally successful street and contemporary dance / exercise programmes:
· Linking up sport & dance. Engage local communities from families, charities, offices, sport centres , Local residents and dance studios.
· Never too old for Street Dance & sport: The group’ : engage people who are local residents and/or who already attend our classes but don’t yet dance. The mums, dads, sisters, brothers, aunts, uncles and others
This ‘twin’ approach will achieve a number of key outcomes:
· provide fun and high energy health and fitness programmes for 105 people over 30 weeks
· extend the reach of street dance and exercise programmes to an older cohort and local residents.
· bring together local residents and local staff / employees to strengthen the sense of local identity and wellbeing in the area
· build on TruStreetDance’s existing Academy to provide employment and accredited learning opportunities for 5 young dance teachers
· provide detailed, qualitative feedback from participants on the impact of the programme
